Keep on Haunting Read online

  When I picked up my book from the desk, a paper fell out and floated to the floor. Instantly I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I reached down to pick it up. For a moment I thought about tossing it away without even reading it. Nevertheless, I had to know what it said.

  Meet me between the stacks.

  I tossed the book onto the desk. At that moment Tammy walked through the door. “Wow, I’ve never seen you treat a book like that. What’s going on?” Tammy asked.

  I held up the piece of paper. “It’s another note. I thought we were done with this.”

  Tammy rushed over to check out the note. I looked around for anything unusual. I didn’t think it could be Denny. He was in jail. I picked up my phone to send Brannon a message just to confirm the guy was in jail. What if by some chance they had already let him out?

  Tammy touched my hand. “Before you send that message, I think I know where this came from.”

  “Where?” I asked.

  She gestured toward the mystery section. “I think you’ll find the answer over there.”

  I quirked an eyebrow. I wasn’t sure I wanted to know what she was talking about, but I headed in that direction anyway. When I came to the end of the stacks there was a shadow to the left. I froze on the spot. The large silhouette was just standing there, looming, as if waiting to attack me as soon as I came out on the other side. I didn’t know what to do. Should I continue or run the other way? My instincts were telling me I should definitely run the other way, but before I had a chance to turn around the shadow disappeared. Now I moved forward.

  I had to take a little peek and see if it had really disappeared. Slowly I moved forward a peeked around the other side the bookcase. I ran right into Brannon. I screamed, which wasn’t something I was supposed to do in the library.

  “Did I scare you?” he asked as he held onto my arms. I guessed he thought I was ready to faint.

  “Was that you? I just saw your shadow?”

  “I was standing there, yes, looking at a book.”

  Now I felt silly. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

  He looked down at my hand. “You got the note.”

  “You left this?” My eyes widened. “You nearly scared me to death. This isn’t funny.”

  “In hindsight this was not one of my better ideas,” he said.

  I stared at him. “No, it wasn’t.”

  He took my hands in his. “I have something I want to ask you.”

  My stomach tumbled. “What’s the question?”

  He pulled something from behind his back.

  I looked at the photo. “Paris?”

  “Will you go to Paris with me? On the famous ghost tour?” Brannon flashed his dazzling smile.

  “You remembered?”

  I’d always talked about wanting to go to Paris and take the famous ghost tour. Now it would be a reality.

  “Am I forgiven for scaring you?” Brannon asked.

  I wrapped my arms around him. “You’re forgiven.”

  He kissed me and then asked, “So, is that a yes?”

  I nodded. “Absolutely yes.”
